Custom 78s

Post by m_nakamura »

Where would be a good place to get a custom 78 made for a reasonable price? Hopefully $200 or under.

Records pressed today will most likely be microgroove (for a 1 mil stylus) regardless of rpm.
I don't know of any recently made 78s with a "standard" 78 rpm groove.

I just wanted to mention this so you may inquire if it matters to you.

From the site posted above: -- https://customrecords.com/gramophone -- I think these are standard groove since they're made to play on acoustic gramophones using steel needles. But, as the saying goes, "They ain't cheap!"

Yes you want to avoid all vinyl 78s, regardless of groove width, unless only playing with more modern electric pickups. Vulcan Records also make hard-wearing 78s for acoustic disc phonographs with steel needles but the price may not work out much cheaper for people in the US.

Thanks OrthoFan and jamiegramo for the correction. I previously didn't realize standard groove width was available.
