Columbia BNW FB Marketplace find

Post by GoCOOGS! »

Hello everyone! Seems like the Columbia fairy has blessed me again because I found a beautiful Columbia BNW for a song! I can’t believe what I paid for this beauty! The motor runs strong but could use an oiling. It also came with an odd soundbox, Goldring branded made in Germany. The box for it was inside the case of the BNW. Can anyone show me the exact reproducer this model had I’d like to buy a rebuilt one for it ASAP. If anyone has any advice or info on this machine, I’d appreciate it!

If I could find my Columbia books, they would have the proper reproducers listed... (not an Analyzing, that's for sure)

I think you can use any one of the acoustic Columbia soundboxes from the 1908-25 period.

Here’s a representation of what’s available from Great Lake Antique Phonographs:

Possibly even the Viva-Tonal type.

Many new collectors are not aware of the assortment of phonograph related books and historical information available from author Bob Baumbach’s website, Mullholland Press. Here is the book dedicated to the Columbia disc machines, you can find the correct soundbox type listed. .

Download it here.

BTW, the brass tube extending from the mount is not original, it was added to adapt the after-market soundbox
