“On This Day in the History of Recorded Sound…”

November 22, 1897: Thomas Macdonald filed for a U.S. patent for a “Graphophone.” This would become the extraordinarily successful Type Q, which was probably the best-selling cylinder talking machine in the world.

November 22, 1955: RCA signed Elvis Presley to an exclusive recording contract.
