Help dating Edison Triumph

Post by Skihawx »

Just acquired an Edison banner front Triumph. The records seem to be the gold molded type with patent dates around 1905 and later.
It appears these have always been together. I am curious about the date. It does have the original instructions that were inside. The serial number is 43717. Thanks for your help.

An article on the Edison Spring Motor/Triumph appeared in the December 2019 issue of the Antique Phonograph Society magazine. If you're an APS member, you can check the article on the APS website. Dating the Spring Motor/Triumph is not as straightforward as the other early Edison cylinder styles. In order to provide a dating guide, it was necessary to canvass owners of these machines with a questionnaire. Many members of this forum assisted with this research. Based on the known production benchmarks and when they appeared (presented in the article), Triumph #43717 left the factory during the third quarter (July/August/September) of 1905.
