I thought I'd do a "poodling around" by sharing this cabinet gramophone, currently on Ebay, as it is a bit of an oddity:

Does anyone recognise it? I asked the seller for additional photos a few days ago but they're not forthcoming. Will it attract more than £15?

I can only see the obvious that it appears to be an Edison Bell (J.E. Hough) machine.

Interesting. How can you identify it? I can't see a decal clearly enough. Thanks, Jamiejamiegramo wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2026 9:03 am I can only see the obvious that it appears to be an Edison Bell (J.E. Hough) machine.
PS - I like the two tone cabinet with blonde internal finish and red mahogany external.

Re: Doing a "poodlin'"
The decal appears to show the jockey with racing horse as used on Winner Records.
The finish is quite nice.

The lid decal appears to have a horse and rider on it. Was that used by EB? The only one I've seen tends to be the more commonly seen bell logo.
Of course, Winner Records used this logo and that was part of EB but I've never seen a machine with that decal before.

No me neither but I assume that, unless another maker was using a similar trademark, this is a Winner (or EB) machine.

Re: Doing a "poodlin'"
The grille (or at least what we can see of it) is not dissimilar to the EB grilles on some portables so I think you are right, this is very likely to be an Edison Bell machine.jamiegramo wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2026 9:23 am No me neither but I assume that, unless another maker was using a similar trademark, this is a Winner (or EB) machine.
The listing is very poor though and it could have been shown off much better!

Surely it's worth more than £15? Should I buy it?

Well yes I guess. The high bidder has only been going up in increments of a pound or so, so you may snipe it at not much more!

Re: Doing a "poodlin'"
I didn't bother. I don't trust the seller one bit or their auction to be honest. I messaged them to request additional photos again and indicated I would potentially pay a lot more than the current price if I could see more of it etc and they just messaged back with "thank you". It was robotic enough to be AI!jamiegramo wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2026 9:39 am Well yes I guess. The high bidder has only been going up in increments of a pound or so, so you may snipe it at not much more!
