This is coming up at a local auction. Interesting twist. Looks like a VV-VI with an Amberola lid, or maybe not.
A one off frankenvictor or was this an after market job available back in the day?

Judging from the picture, the cut out looks like a hack job. It's a very interesting concept, though.

Re: Another interesting twist
I wouldn't necessarily say hack job, it looks like a pretty decent fit with clean lines - and it probably works pretty well in cutting down on surface noise from the needle on the discs. I've seen a couple of these before, and I think they've been discussed at some point not too long ago (regarding when this may have been done, by who and why). I know of one that was auctioned a couple of years ago in the philadelphia area.

It's unusual accessory items that help make a collection interesting. If you have the opportunity to buy it, I say go for it! That makes an ordinary Victrola VI quite special in my opinion. Jerry Blais

I have seen a similar attachment that fit on an external horn Victor. I'm pretty sure I recall that it had a glass panel on the top of the lid.

Right - that's the "Allegrophone." We show it in Discovering Antique Phonographs on a Victor V. I'd love to find one! I agree with Jerry that the modification to the Victrola VI is interesting. I think it looks pretty well done.JohnM wrote:I have seen a similar attachment that fit on an external horn Victor. I'm pretty sure I recall that it had a glass panel on the top of the lid.
