Here's an amazingly detailed website about early phonographs, well worth a long look: http://www.phonorama.fr/

It was created by Julien Anton, a well-known collector in France, and author of the definitive book about Lioret phonographs. The site is in French but there's plenty of eye-candy there even if you can't read French.

Thanks very much for posting this!

If you click on this link -- http://translate.google.com/translate?j ... 2F&act=url -- it will take you to the (not too bad, really,) English version of the site.

This is indeed an admirable collection, built up with much expertise.

That website is one the best phonograph sites I have ever seen, particularly in regard to European machines and records. You have to go deep through a lot of menus to find some of the really interesting and obscure stuff. This site has the only pictures that I have ever seen of the monstrous master cylinders recorded by Pathé: http://www.phonorama.fr/techniques-d-en ... ement.html

I've known this site for some time, and although my French is pretty much bad, I still enjoy those incredible pictures on the website. Wish they can also update their cylinder soundfiles corner soon.

Thanks, Rene!
