Brass Horn Info Needed

Post by whitedogfive »

I have an all brass horn, measurements are 29.5 inches long and the bell is 13.5 inches wide. No markings on the horn anywhere. It is on my Edison Standard which was a separate purchase. My question is on how the horn was made. The body is joined together by crimping the 2 sides to make the cone, which is typical construction for most horns. The bell however is attached to the body soley by friction. No crimping, solder, glue or anything. The body is slightly larger than the opening of the bell, so I assume the maker just ran the bell up the body until it stopped. Then give it a good tug to snug it up tight and your finished. This is the first horn I have seen this way. Is it a repro? Old? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Can the bell and body be separated?

Can you post of close-up of the interior seam and the hanger?

Here are some new pics. The plastic wrap is a dust cover to keep the machine clean.

I can't tell anything by the hanger or the seam - other than everything looks professional. Can the horn and body be separated?

Yes they can be separated, as any dents near the connection, allow you to see through.

It's possible that the horn was designed to be taken apart to facilitate shipping/traveling. I've never seen a collapsible horn where the body was only 1 piece, but as I say, it's possible. Most collapsible horns have 3 or 4-piece bodies. Interesting horn!
