Re: WTB Records
Harvey, I have them both, but they're NFS. "Rum and Coca-Cola," Decca 18363A, Andrews Sisters with Vic Schoen and His Orchestra, b/b "One Meat Ball" (same personnel). I listened to these tunes repeatedly as a very young kid during WWII, along with "South." The Glenn Miller "In the Mood" (retitled by us bored band guys "In the Nude") is Bluebird B-10416-A, b/b "I Want To Be Happy." I personally like "One Meat Ball" over "Rum and C-C," for the clever lyrics. Great fun, all of this!
I wouldn't think either record would be particularly rare, as they were both big big sellers in their day, and very well-known and popular. My childhood records are long gone; I think I picked up these copies at a local thrift, or they might have been among gifts from friends cleaning out their closets. I have a lot of 78s from sources like those!

I used to love listening to my Dad's well-worn copy of the A.S. in "Mister Five-By-Five"...I have no idea whatever happened to it since I last heard it in the late-70s.

No, they shouldn't be hard to find at all. I've got multiple copies of both.Henry wrote:I wouldn't think either record would be particularly rare, as they were both big big sellers in their day, and very well-known and popular.
The one that is much harder to find is their 1957 re-recording of Rum & coca-cola. It was released on the Capital label here, so it's probably the same in USA.

Re: WTB Records
Holy reverb chamber, Batman! Interesting rendition; thanks for posting it. They really draw out the glissando on the second syllable of "dollar" longer than on the original. But that electronic (?) enhancement of the vocals is, to me, quite noticeable and IMO unnecessary. Did Capitol think that it had to gimmick things up a bit to be heard above the ru$tle of newly emerging entertainment values?
