How do you do that?
How do I add an eBay, Craigslist, email page, etc. to a new topic entry?

Open a tab or window with the page you wish to link to. Highlight and copy the text in address bar. Click on the 'URL' button above the white window where you are entering the board post. This will add two HTML codes. Put the cursor between the two HTML commands and paste what you have copied from the address bar. This will yield a live link to that URL when you click 'Submit' and post your message.

Hi John,
You can actually dispense with using the URL button on this forum if you wish and simply paste the web address into your post. Apparently, phpBB features something called "Magic Links" which will turn any "syntactically correct URL" into a link without the need to specify any tags or even the leading http://.
It also applies to posting e-mail addresses.

Bruce:
If you also want to paste an image of a web page, you'll have to do a screen capture of the page by pressing the prt scr button on your keyboard. This copies the entire screen image into your clipboard file.
After that, call up an image editor program such as MS Paint, click on Edit and Paste and the image will appear. Then, you can crop the image, etc, and save it as a JPG file.
Once this is done, you can upload the image as an attached file so it appears in your post, as described in this post string: http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... 31&start=0
BTW, if you go to Youtube, and do a search for Screen Capture, you'll find dozens of videos that show you how this is done on a variety of systems.
You might also want to check out some of the tutorials provided by the board's administrator, MordEth -- http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... ?f=7&t=274

One learns something new every day! Why the button, I wonder?

not all URLs are created equally... long ones can be truncated or split at the wrong place making them fail. If the URL is in between the markers, it will work every time (so the theory goes).JohnM wrote:One learns something new every day! Why the button, I wonder?
Using the URL markers you can do interesting things like this link to the machines section.
