How to open Thorens barrels?

Working on a Thorens motor from a PAL portable for a friend. There is the center shaft
that holds both the barrels together and I am not sure how to get them apart. Should
I tap the center shaft with a hammer to push it though? I took the barrels out already so the pics are
before I removed them. Thanks for any info.

Disregard. Got them open today.

That's a dead ringer for the motor in my Champion, except there's no Thorens mark on the bottom.
