OT - Go see the movie "Hugo"
There are broken springs, clocks, toys, tons of mechanical devices, early cinema, adventure, and first love. It's pure magic. I loved it. Jerry Blais

So right, Jerry - may I add trains to the list!
See it in 3D for best effect.
Also "The Artist" was excellent, even if they did show a 1950s record changer in one scene. There were a few nice old radios too.

Re: OT - Go see the movie "Hugo"
I've been trying to get to see Hugo for the last 3 weeks. I've even got a free movie pass, but just haven't found the time.
My mothers been in hospital for the last 2 months with a broken hip, so I've been rearranging the entire house so she can get around with a walking aid. At least I've now got a gramophone room (woohoo) so I might be able to get back to doing youtube videos & feature phonos eventually.
I just hope Hugo is still playing when I finally do find the time to go!
It looks like an awesome movie from what I've seen, so it's nice to know a few others have enjoyed seeing it.

I saw it last week, great movie indeed. You gotta love the idea of making a silent B/W movie in a time where multichannel sound and 3D are the norm.recordo wrote:So right, Jerry - may I add trains to the list!

I also noticed the record changer, a shame, because most of the film looks pretty authentic. Also, it features the song Pennies From Heaven, which is, I believe, from 1936.

And I'm not nit-picking, because I thought both films were the best things I've seen in years, but the Bernard Hermann music from Hitchcock's "Vertigo" in "The Artist" was a little out of place. But I loved the music anyhow so I didn't care.bart1927 wrote:Also, it features the song Pennies From Heaven, which is, I believe, from 1936.
Shane, I guarantee you'll love it - and I hope everything is OK with your Mother.

Re: OT - Go see the movie "Hugo"
(J.M.J.) Hello Mr. Jerry, See you at Union every year. I have a question regarding both movies, because I have not seen "Hugo" but am maybe interested in going, IF the movie has absolutly NO sexual scenes. Please let me know after seeing thoses 2 movies. It is hard to find any movies these days, even those rated PG, that don't have a "bed-room" scene, and then as a society, there is a wonder ( shouldn't be ) why there is so many abortions, since the Corporate moguls in Hollywood constantly push sex as the lease common denominator as a weakness for most people to Sin. I am not going to any movie unless I know it is "wholesome".

Since Hugo is based on a children's novel I doubt you'll find any offensive scenes in it. Unless you count people kissing as sex.........

The young lady, about eleven or twelve, gives Hugo a kiss on the cheek. Maybe it was a kiss of friendship or a first love kiss. That's it. I suspect it's PG because Hugo has a scary dream and is almost hit by a train. Maybe those scenes were intense enough to reach the PG rating. Jerry Blais
