I came across this today --

I've never dealt with this company, but they seem to offer a pretty wide selection of luggage repair parts, including more authentic looking handles or grips which could be used to replace the ones often missing or damaged on portables, such as the VV-2-55, 2-60, etc.

I use this source: http://www.brettunsvillage.com/trunks/h ... andles.htm
It's part of a larger site for antique trunk parts and leather supplies.
This handle is particularly useful for old portables (or any sort of case) where the mounting rings are still attached to the case. Just slip the straps through and buckle them. The result is attractive and probably stronger than the original.
