Both, Either a C-19 or S-19 would be worth it if the machine is in good condition with decent finish, working and complete. I would not worry about the missing grille. Original grilles are still around from $50-$100 on Ebay and from antique phonograph dealers, and they are also available in repro wood for the same amount if you can believe it.

The extra discs would be "gravy".

Tony, are you suggesting that a C-19 in good shape but missing the grill is worth $500? Unless I'm missing something, that seems too high to me. Jerry Blais

I agree with jerry, that seems a bit too high. I recently picked up a complete working C19 with a 100 records for less than 80.00. Al be it, the finish is in poor shape but it has the original grill and hardware. I believe that 200 or so would be a good start.

Oh yes, I've seen them go for that much and sell for that price here in Florida. Some people are asking $700-$800 for them!!! - which I think is ludicrous.

Have you checked out C-19's on Ebay lately??

I bought my C-19 in good shape two years ago for $260.00

That was a real good price two years ago. Now I see them selling for more than double around me, and this is a crappy economy. I am in Central Florida. SO what gives? Well, I can tell you this, In Central Florida, The hobby is exploding with more collectors now than years ago. It might depend on area, but that's what people are asking for them here in FLA...if the machine is in good physical shape, with a nice finish. $500 is not out of the question. Would I, Myself try to haggle down, You betcha.

A well known phonograph dealer accross town from me was asking $1000.00 for the harder to find Oak one, and it was a beautiful machine. Had I had an extra grand around to blow at the time, I probably would have tried to buy it from him...or at least for $800.00...lol...

Is the price inflated since so many were made? Maybe...Maybe not. It is still one of the best looking, most popular designed Diamond Disc machines.

I am just saying that is what some people are asking for them now. See what people on Ebay are asking for them.. You will blow your mind!

Out here, you're lucky to get a C19 for less than $600, & thats without any records. I've also seen them got for over $1000 on ebay. Even table models like L35s go for between $200-$500 depending on condition.I paid about $1200 for my C19 over 20 yrs ago. Even though it was full of records & had a few electrically recorded DDs, I knew I was paying too much, but I wanted it so I bought it.

Personally, I think offering $200 for a C19 with 50 records would be insulting if it is in very good condition and the stylus is ok. A good stylus is worth $100 alone.
Im not up on current US prices for these, but in my mind, I think $400 or so would a FAIR price to pay for both parties, even with a missing grille, especially if there are some 52,000 series discs and the cabinet is oak.

If you're buying from someone who makes their living selling antiques and has a retail shop, $500 may not be out of the question. However, on a private party sale, $300 is probably more realistic, assuming the machine is basically working and has no major cosmetic flaws.

I'd suggest you go through Craigslist frequently. In the last few weeks I've seen a nice C19 with 30+ records for $300, an LU-37 that needed minor work for $150, and another LU-37 that was given away for free. I myself bought a C-150 needing a new spring for $100 and a W-250 (working) project machine for $250 plus delivery via Craigslist. With a little patience you can indeed find a good machine at a good price.

The nicest golden oak C-250 has been on craigslist in Boise, Idaho. It's 100% untouched original with an extra reproducer for 78s and it's full of Diamond Disk records. It has been on craigslist for the last three years at $1000. I doubt if they have received an offer for half that amount. Check it out and make an offer. I'll pick it up and bring it to Union.
