Edison P-2 portable

Can someone kindly post a close-up photograph / photographs of the tonearm and reproducer for an Edison P-2 portable? I just bought a rough one and it is missing something that holds the reproducer head to the tonearm. Can't figure out what's missing. Otherwise the unit plays very well with a quiet strong motor. It will need to be recovered and cleaned.

Wish I could help, Brian. My P-2 had the same problem.

Here is a picture from Wyatt's website if it helps. It looks like a rubber flange of some sort but I'm not positive as to the size, shape, etc. http://www.lagparty.org/~wyatt/P-2/

Probably, any rubber washer that fits could be used. Carsten Fischer notes in his review of the P-1, "the soundbox was not designed to handle a thin arm: There is no limiter that would prevent the arm being pushed against the diaphragm, in fact most surviving P-1s had the diaphragm squashed and punctured at one point by the tone arm."

I'm not sure if the same sound box/tonearm was installed on the P-2, but it's probably a good idea to check the fitting to make sure that the end of the tonearm does not touch the diaphragm.

That's a good point. My reproducer had a circular piece of gold wire mesh that kept the end of the tonearm from pressing/puncturing the diaphragm. Does anyone else have something like this on their P-2?

Sorry, but on my P-1, someone got creative and built up some sort of clay-like compound on the end of the tonearm to try to hold the reproducer in place. They were surprisingly successful, but I'd prefer to clean it up and retore it to the way it's supposed to be.

I think that gold wire mesh (probably brass) is factory installed as I have a spare P-2 reproducer and they both have that mesh installed in exactly the same location, etc. I guess I'll hit the plumbing store tonight. It with have to be a pretty thick washer since there is a pretty large gap between the end of the tonearm and the actual pot-metal reproducer body.

Update: Went to a good plumbing store yesterday and found an exact but slightly snug fitting thick rubber washer. After drilling a small hole in the washer for the reproducer's tiny set screw, the reproducer is now perfectly mounted to the tonearm - just like new! Plays & sounds great! Thanks for all the great photos everyone.....

Sounds like it was an easy fix. Do you have a video of it playing or some pictures you can post? I'd love to see/hear it play!
