Victorola VV 4-3
Victorola VV 4-3
I just inherited a VV 4-3 Consolette from a family member. It is in mint condition and it WORKS! The only problem I've found is the switch that starts the turn table spinning will not stay in play and I have to hold it to make it play. I'm assuming something is broken with this switch? Can anyone tell me about this switch? Also, what is this thing worth since it works and I believe it to be in mint condition?

Re: Victorola VV 4-3
I assume you are referring to the brake lever on your 4-3. It is a simple spring loaded lever that is equipped with a ratchet device to hold the brake pad away from the platter table.
There is a simple way to check it by;
first letting the spring wind down
second Gently lifting the platter straight up clearing the spindle post and set aside. The brake mechanism will be out in the open and diagnosis should be simple and straight forward
Note After lifting the platter off, the spindle may start to continue to spin. No cause for alarm as this is normal
As for value, the Consolette is a Level one machine (lowest value) and value is dependent upon condition, location and finding a willing buyer. The machine also came in two different cabinet designs, two different sized platters, two different tone arms, two different spring motors and two different Orthophonic reproducers, brass or pot metal. Without a picture and a serial # it is difficult to evaluate. I have seen them as low as $85.00 up to $300.00 here in the upper midwest.
Hope this helps
