i have requested "vulcan" records to make a new cylinder copy of a un common song by arthur collins entitled "below the mason dixon line" originally from 1911 and recorded on a edison amberol record #698

in order for vulcan to produce this great song by mr collins they need atleast 20 people interested in this being produced and in possibly buying it!
if you are interested in this song being produced either leave a reply on this board or pm me, i will then tally up the total amount then if it goes over 2o and i get permission by the archive to use their mp3 then vulcan can produce the record.
i really want this song to be produced, i dont know about you

Nice enough song I guess, but I can think of many others I'd prefer to see available.
Arthur Collins recordings are as common as mud, so I'd rather get something that I'd have little change of finding in the wild.

I agree, Gramophoneshane. Even here in the UK, Arthur Collins records are not particularly uncommon. I've always thought that Vulcan should be manufacturing indestructible copies of those wax cylinders you simply never see or if you do see them, are so rare you would never dare play them. I'm thinking of things such as any of Edison 2 - Minute Grand Operas or those Grand Opera Amberols that Edison never made into Blue Amberols. The Slezak and Bori records would be great to have in an indestructible format.

Perhaps not, but they made a really fine Diamond Disc recording in 1912, with an unusual string orchestra backing. Imagine ragtime harp!

The record was in the catalog for along while, until 1926, I think, and may be found in quiet early pressings, and in very nice White Label pressings. It was the "B" side of the equally interesting "Moonlight In Jungleland", and was the first issue in Edison's Popular (50,000) series.

I have another very early one on DD by Collins and Harlan, "Bake that Chicken Pie". It may not be a musical masterpiece but is a great record to demonstrate how loudly, clearly, with no surface noise the newly introduced Edison Disc Phonograph could reproduce sound compared to it's rivals. Of course there were many other such recordings.
