crank gear missing pin

Post by jimmantwo »

I recently bought a Victrola Model VVX and the gear that attaches to the threaded piece where the crank itself threads into is not attached. It looks like it may have been pinned. The hole in the gear appears to be smaller than the hole in the piece it attached to, which would mean that there would be some play. Any suggestions on how to repair this?

There should be no clearance due to dissimilar hole diameters. Replace the pin. Your local hardware store should have a selection of "roll pins". Take the parts along and find a pin to suit.

Actually, what goes in there originally is a tapered pin, so the hole in the gear should be slighly larger on one side than the other. You can get these tapered pins from the usual phonograph parts suppliers listed in the Links section.
