Edison Amberola 30 Technical Help PLEASE :)

Hey there - I purchased a really nice shape Edison Amberola 30 last night at a local auction. I got it hope, wound it up, flipped the switch and the cylinder spun great. Now, I am not up with normal verbage for the parts so I will explain to best, when I slid the reproducer part with the needle onto the cylinder, obviously noise started to spew out. The problem was, the little spinning handle handle like lever thing that I believe is supposed to lower the needle - it spins and nothing happens and the needle already was in place on the cylinder. Ok after the cylinder continued to spin and noise comes out - it does not advance along the cylinder it continues to repeat the thing over and over and it does not slide along the bar advancing to more sound... could someone please try to help me - I am hoping its some simple adjustments that are needed - but I just dont know why that spinning little handle thing does not appear to do anything at all nor why it does not slide or advance during play. It was a beautiful machine with a great looking case so I could not pass it up
