A C-19 question or two

Post by mattrx »

I recently picked up this C-19 and I have a couple of questions. I knew the cabinet had been refinished before I bought the machine. the finish looks quite nice to me, but I know it is not original.

Is there a source for the numbered indexes that should be below the record slats? Is there anything missing from within the turntable bay that I am unaware of, with regard to decals?

Any advice is, as always, appreciated.

Matt

Hey Matt, Congrats, I see you took the plunge! If you paid what I think you did, you did well. All looks as it should even though it has been redone, it looks very presentable. Your making progress, a few more and you might be a collector!

Second on the congratulations. All looks good to me. I don't know of a source for the number strips. Maybe use a Dymo Label Maker with white tape for a work around?

Try George Vollema at Great Lakes Antique Phonographs for the number indexes.
Looks like a pretty good refinish job they did, at least as far as the pics go.
The only thing that I dont see on the motor board is the Edison signature decal in the rear right corner (below the reproducer in your last photo) although it may be there but just not visible with my poor eyesight :)

Thanks "Guest". I have used George before and have been pleased. I want it to look as close to original as possible. Not really interested in using the index as an index. I also need to rebuild the reproducer, as it sounds "mushy".

The signature decal is there, as is the i.d. plate and the medallion. Should there be a decal around the speed control?

"Should there be a decal around the speed control." - Believe there was a round piec of cardboard around the dial, but it is always missing.. Would love to see somoone post a pic of it and/or repro it...

Also, Your key is not an original Edison key... The original edison key has a "E" on both sides, though some other keys such as "dolphin" keys work also on Edison cabinets.
