Super Dark "Early English" Quartersawn Mission Oak VV-120

Post by PeterF »

Long-time viewer, first-time poster here.

I came across a pretty rare machine here in San Francisco. It's a Victor Victrola VV-120, the early-20's successor to the venerable VV-XVI, in the super rare "Early English" (or maybe "Flemish") extra dark quartered-oak finish - it's almost black. I sent pictures to Bob Baumbach and he suggested it to be either of these two...hard to tell from photos because it was an overcast day.

Anyway, please take a look - I don't have the room so I need to cut it loose. The interior surfaces are beautiful and retain their high gloss piano finish, but the exterior will need to be polished. Worst thing is that one of the rear legs is missing, but it has a wooden prop bolted underneath so the machine will stand ok. At least it's in the rear so it isn't very noticeable. Gold plating is good.

This is a pretty special machine for somebody...

Thanks.

I took a bunch more pictures, and included both unprocessed and processed versions of each shot so folks can get the best estimation of how it really looks. Here, take a look: http://www.flickr.com/photos/28362300@N ... 597605864/

This won't be expensive, I just want to get it into good hands.

Here are a whole lot of additional pictures. Will probably put it on CL soon if no interest here.

It's gone. But the guy who has it now would probably sell it for $600 or so. If anyone's interested, I can put you in touch with him.
