Victor VI Spring Barrel Disassembly

Post by novkev24 »

Hi all,

I'm trying to disassemble the three spring motor on my Victor VI. For some reason, I can't seem to get it apart. A shaft between the two barrels has a pin in one end. I figured if I removed the pin, I would be able to slide the both barrels off the shaft. I tried pulling the pin out of the shaft, but unfortunately while attempting to hammer the pin out, I mushroomed the end of the pin... No biggie, I can replace it. I ended up cutting it so I can gain access to the barrels. Afterwards, I tried to pulling the single barrel off. It moved a bit and stopped. I was unable to figure out how to remove the barrels. Also, looking inbetween both barrels I noticed that the inside of the barrels are smooth. Typically, you would see a ring holding the lid on. This does not appear to be the case with this machine. I wonder if the spring barrels for a 1906 Victor VI can't be disassembled. Suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

I think you might need to twist the barrels a certain way to unhook them from one another.
