78 record holder

Post by CarGuyZM10 »

First off I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this, but it seems like it gets the most traffic. Right now I am storing my records flat in piles, which is taking up a lot of room, and is very hard to make anything. I would like to build some sort of shelving to organize them. What I was thinking is two pieces of wood in a "V" shape to set the records on vertically. I would make two levels of these shelves, with supports every 2 feet. Any thoughts?

No appologies needed. This topic comes up from time to time. Your idea sounds fine, there is an example of a v shaped shelve, as well as others in this thread.

There may a one or more other threads on this board discussing record storage. Lots of options. I am sure there are some new ones

Thank you for the link, but when I said "V" shelves, I meant more like the kinds that are at bowling alleys for bowling balls. I don't have the money for anything nice, I am just kinda looking for a strong shelf to put in a closet.

As long as it is strong it doesn't have to be pretty. As for weight, you should figure about 2.2 records per lb.

Okay, my dad and I are planning on building it this weekend, with the records resting on two ½ inch wooden dowels with supports every 10 inches to a foot, and boards behind it for support. Does that sound good?
