Ok guys, I have a reproduction Herzog cylinder cabinet that I am about to glue some new pegs in, but before I do that I need to know if the shelves(which are now natural new wood)are to be stained a color that somewhat matches the outside in appearance? Being new wood, they just stick out like a sore thumb. As always, all help greatly appreciated!

Re: Herzog Cylinder Cabinet Help
Wes,
Herzog originally put a coat of shellac on the shelves. No stain. Here's an earlier thread with multiple photos of original shelves (note that the thread is 3 pages long). Hope this helps.

Thanks George, The images in that previous thread were very helpful. Although the originals appear a little darker, I guess that is a little darkening with age. Thanks for the help!

Re: Herzog Cylinder Cabinet Help
Try orange shellac, not clear. It will duplicate an aged finish very nicely. Try it on a piece of scrap wood first to see how it works.

That is exactly what I was thinking, but not too much. Just to give it that not so brand new look.

Re: Herzog Cylinder Cabinet Help
Sorry - I should have stipulated orange (amber) shellac. It's all I ever use, so I didn't think of clear!
