FOLLOW THE RESTORATION: 1890's "whisker" Edison Home Lid

Sunny and hot out in the shop, so I am back in the kitchen *sigh* where I won't melt.

On the dirty cabinet:

Here we are with some stain:

And cleaning off some glue residue:

After cleaning the cabinet:

Added shellac to repair, selectively filled in missing details on decal:

And here is the BEFORE picture:


I think this is how I will leave it for now, as I don't want to put $800 worth of time into it. Looks like a good old machine now!

The decal: a very small paint brush, an assortment of colors, and lots...and LOTS of patience.

Nice color match on the missing red places in the
decal lettering! Fascinating post! This is the closest
thing to magic that I've seen for a long time.

The new wood blends in very well too in the repaired area.
