I think he's one of those guys who thinks of his machine as an object to look at, not as something to play. There are a surprising amount of people like that- businessmen with a cylinder machine on the bookshelf (with one solitary cylinder) people with a Victrola in the corner of the room who never lift the lid. I know of one collector who is a completist, he wants one example of everything in his line but has no interest in playing any of them.

And thank God there are collectors that only go after the machines and not the records! OK- he's slightly more realistic now, after a couple guys sent him messages- the needle is now 5 cents. "Hello, I now regret posting this item. I worked in radio for 14 years ... I know all about gramophones and their history ... however there are some people who have these antiques but never use them to play records."
