Re: Sometimes I don't Know What to Think
Hi Covah:
In that image, I agree, they do look like flaking paint. But, if you compare that with this slightly easier to see image from the Victor-Victrola page:

From: http://www.victor-victrola.com/painted.htm
you can see that gold and brown (bronze?) paint was applied to emulate the appearance of branches & flowers (cherry blossoms?) in the style of Japanese filigree. Since these were hand painted by Japanese craftsmen, according to Victor literature, the artwork differed from cabinet to cabinet.
I'd love to see a photo of the Japanned finish Victrola in color. All I've found, online, is this b&w image from an old CAPs newsletter:

This one is from Jaspers place. It was down stairs off to one side.

Hi Vic78:
Many thanks for posting the photos! It's absolutely stunning. While this style may not be to everyone's taste, I think everyone can appreciate the craftsmanship and skill involved in creating what amounted to a unique work of art.

They're gorgeous machines, albeit a bit "gaudy". I'll never part with mine, it's just too cool.
