I was afraid somebody would miss my point. Like John, I believe completely in free speech, so post away. As Brian says, how many machines does one really need? I certainly don't need any more than I already have. Wanting is another story, natch. I still have mixed feelings over it though and that's just my opinion, we are certainly entitled to them whether or not we all agree.

I enjoy seeing weird machines posted. I'm not a CL hound like many are. Most of the time I find stuff on CL, it's by dumb luck. I don't search there on a daily basis, if even weekly. Only two machines I've ever found on CL were from people who alerted me to them since they know I'm near Albany. I'm grateful for those alerts, believe me.

So, go ahead, post away, I guess I should just keep my mouth shut sometimes, but I can't always resist.

Oddly enough, I would sooner post a craig's list ad than an ebay auction. If there is an item I'm bidding on slipping under the radar, I would be upset if it suddenly had a rash of bids on it, driving up the price, or potentially losing it because of the added attention (I feel bad enough about the auctions I forget to bid on...just last week an early victor 3 spring motor, with a bunch of parts from an L-door went for around $150...and I just forgot to bid...man I was p.o.'ed). Granted, I think there are certain exceptions, like when I posted the Gothic auction. I just don't think there are that many of us here who have the disposable cash to start bidding on a machine whose starting price is over $25k to make that much of a difference.

For craig's list, it's a set price. If you see it and want it, you should call as soon as possible. Lollygag and you probably will lose it anyway.

However, I think we all understand the frustration of not getting something we want, or paying more for it than we could have otherwise...just part of the hobby.

I have no problem with posting items that are of interest and can stimulate conversation. I try to keep up with the online opportunities but if I miss out on something, as Brian already said, there are plenty more that will follow.

I tend to only look at CL listings that I might drive to pick-up, so something really interesting that's 1500 miles away will slip under my radar screen even though I might learn something from the discussion that will benefit me somewhere down the road.

Also, I like checking out CL listing prior to a vac. or business trip because there may be something of interest that I can grab along the way. Makes the trip more fun if there's a long drive, it gives me something to look forward to at the end of a tedious day..

One final thought, if there is a machine near someone I know lives in the area, I'll send them a note first to allow an opportunity for them to be first in line. I've been on the receiving end of that a few times and appreciate the fellow collector who gave me the heads up on something he knew I'd be interested in.

This is always an "interesting" subject. I too have mixed feelings about it, yet we seem to getting along very well as we are so I see no need to alter the status quo. We have had some very interesting discussions spurred by machine listings both on CraigsList and E-Bay. As Brian says-that's what we're here for. So Dean, keep posting please.
