It's definitely dark-stained quarter-sawn oak veneer. A very easy resto, as the veneers are readily available from a variety of suppliers. Additionally, Oak grain is easier to finish and more forgiving of minor irregularities in application.

Why is it worth restoring if it's oak and not any other kind of wood? Are dark oak ones more rare?

As with alot of models, fewer variations of oak were made in comparison to those made in mahogany.

I am going to say restore it, that machine has a lot of potential. It sounds like all it needs is cosmetic work and a spring replacement. If it were mine, it would be saved, but it is your machine, so do as you like.

Ok ok, I'll restore it. Can someone give me some advice on where to get springs? I also just picked up a really nice VV-XI that needs springs.

So glad to hear you are restoring it!Junkyard4 wrote:Ok ok, I'll restore it. Can someone give me some advice on where to get springs? I also just picked up a really nice VV-XI that needs springs.
For springs, Ron Sitko does a great job. His contact info should be in the links section of the forum. He recently put in a new spring for me and I was very pleased with both the service and the price.

That, I guess is the key question (unless it's "family"). If the doors exhibit warping or swelling I would not fuss with it.Jerry B. wrote:What is it worth when restored? Jerry B.

Re: For Sale: Parting Out A Victor VV-XIV
Junkyard4 Was willing to deliver to union to someone whe wanted the whole machine. I think he is willing to sell the whole machine at a good price so that it can be restored if someone can pick it up or meet at a reasonable distance. If had fit in my Truck with the L-Door and the RAE-26, I'd have brought it home to restore. Unfortunately it did not fit. I hope someone gets it. (Or brings it to TN for me. )
