The sound quality can best be described as poor. This was the first commercially available disc gramophone playing the first commercially available records, both of which are now about 125 years old. Also being hand wind it is difficult to maintain the proper speed for record playback. This is in large part why it was marketed as a toy. These 5 inch Berliner records generally had a label affixed to the back of the record with the lyrics of the recording. This was undoubtedly to help the listener discern what was recorded.
