I tried asking this question in the phonograph forum at antiqueradios (my usual hangout), but no one knew. They suggested I post over here, so here goes.
My Wife just bought this machine, so now I'm in the process of rebuilding the motor. My first question is how do you remove the shaft that goes through the spring barrels? I removed the set screw that holds the ratchet on, but the shaft doesn't want to slide out. I assume it slides out in the direction of the winding gears side? I didn't want to force anything with a drift punch and small hammer. This machine is a two spring unit, with each spring in a separate barrel.
I watched the six part video on YouTube, so I'm pretty familiar with how everything comes apart. The unit that he demonstrated on has a slightly different spring barrel setup than mine though.
Any guidance would be helpful.
A little background on me. I'm an ME, and have worked on my Edison Amberola before, so I'm familiar with spring motors. This is however my first venture into these new fangled "disc" machines
