Here's a bit more --

A member of this forum -- beat_truck -- has a model that looks to be identical to the one you have, albeit refinished with a replacement sound box and grille -- http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... f=2&t=6351

Also, there have been a number of posts on this forum about off brand Orthophonic era phonographs, including Tru-Phonic models -- https://www.google.com/search?as_q=Sear ... as_qdr=all

I'm wondering if your machine's horn has the baffle as noted in Kirkwood's post in this string -- http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... 4&start=30

looks like the box below the turntable is the only place that the sound can go; there is no opening from that box to the bottom grill portion of the machine. Which seems weird, since the grill is not just in front of another box area; there is a shape behind it like it is a horn. How do you take that grill off? I may be in for removing the back to see what's going on. more pics attached.

When you remove the tonearm, there should be a tapered pipe or conduit leading from the hole to the horn, which is behind the grille cloth. (I'm not sure how the grille is removed.) Shine a flashlight into the hole to see if there's a pipe. If you don't see one, it may have been removed.

Here's a cut-away view of the arrangement:

Good idea! The light shines and can be seen behind the grille only, so it does indeed have a horn. May throw it back together and give it a try. My sister said it only needed needles. You find out all sorts of interesting things on these, like I did not know that the needles can only be used once. I wondered why they were always for sale in lots of at least 100! Except I have found there is a different kind of needle that will last longer than just one play, can't recall now which it is now.

The most usual "multi-play" needles during the period were the Victor "Tungs-Tone", which came in several different grades. There are threads on this Forum about their performance.

I just obtained this model over the weekend. If you take out the little screws on the back panel you will see the cast "soundpipe" as in the illustration above.

Anybody found the name of this unit from the catalogs?

Alas, no secret treasures found after taking the back off, only dust, a couple of needles and another ball bearing and an old paper tag or sticker....

Looks exactly like mine. Except I don't see a tag anywhere. :-)

All I need is a crank, tone arm, and reproducer and I'll be ready to roll. Haha

In the "for what it's worth" column, there is one of these for sale at an antique mall in Wisconsin. It's the very first mall you come to when travelling north on I-90 and just after entering WI. Angie's antique mall is right across the street but I can't remember the name of the one with the Silvertone. If I recall, the price wasn't too bad and it looked complete and operational.

Cool machine by the way. You see VERY few.

That's the Roscoe Antique Mall. I actally purchased that, but it was FAR from complete. It had no crank, no tonearm, and no reproducer.

When did you see it that it was functional?
