Didn't need another Edison 250 but.......UPDATE

Post by stetam »

$40 for a working B250 with 23 diamond discs. Missing the front door. Could not say no.

I wouldn't pass it up either, with that informational book in the mix.

Indeed the find of the month/year. You might have to look for some time to find a door, but it will be worth it!

Great find, great price. If you have patience, a door will eventually turn up. I've seen a number of wrecked cabinets over the years from which a door could be salvaged.

I was thinking of fabricating a door since locks are relatively cheap.

OK, went and picked it up today. Plays well and came with 23 popular titled diamond discs, a Kent adapter, a new bottle of Howards Feed-N-Wax, a new diamond disc reproducer diaphragm and Copelands "Guide to collecting Edison records". It has the door, machine veneer is good but the door veneer is shot, not a big deal to replace but a piece of the wood broke out of the cabinet at the upper hinge so would need to be fixed. I only gave $40 for it and the records and accessories are worth well more than that so is it worthwhile to restore it?

Also, he is downsizing his collection so will trade me his old pre 1920 78's for 50's R&R which I have plenty and will gladly do. He said has 3 more sound boxes and some Edison cylinders that he will give me also

This model is always worth restoring. The veneer on the door is salveagable; it will never match if you replace it.

Garrett, You are probably right. I don't think they make mahogany like that anymore. but a good staining will go far to help with the match.
