The sheet music is hard to find too. It was the fad dance of 1925-26 . My mother ...who lived through the twenties....said she saw it danced once or twice, although let it be said that small town Ontario was hardly the Charleston capital of the western world
. She saw it in the movies of course but I am speaking of real life . She said that by the time she started high school.. in the fall of 1927...that the Charleston phase was basically over.

Tinkerbell, I have bought from this seller many times in the past. I also have a good relationship with him as a buyer - he's sent me a few freebies as a generous offer before!
Rest assured, his packing is second to none. New boxes, polystyrene chip, cardboard stiffeners and bubble wrap. He then covers the box in masking tape for extra rigidity.
I'm keeping a close eye on this one. I'd love to own it, but I have a feeling it will go for way more than I can afford

I could be wrong but,I thought the Whiteman version on side 2 is the first release of this song???.I like the end when he says hotcha, hotcha!!!!!.I think it was on side 2 because no one thought it was going to be a big hit.

That really is a great version. Thanks for the Youtube link.
I've been collecting for 50 years and the only copy I've ever found is an Edison Diamond Disc. It's actually a pretty good rendition.
The hot 20s title I've found in a lot of variations is "Yes, We Have No Bananas." My favorite is actually a satirical version titled "I've Got the Yes We Have No Bananas Blues."

Whiteman's was recorded in May, 1925.gramophone78 wrote:I could be wrong but,I thought the Whiteman version on side 2 is the first release of this song???.I like the end when he says hotcha, hotcha!!!!!.I think it was on side 2 because no one thought it was going to be a big hit.
Arthur Gibbs & His Gang had a version out in early 1924. That was supposedly a very successful record, too, though I have never heard it.

Wolfe,
I have a really nice E+ copy of the Gibbs version that came with, of all things, my Victor XXV. When I can get my hands on it (which may be awhile), I'll gladly transfer it and post it in the audio section.

EDIT: here's the Varsity Eight's Version from the Cameo I have...forgot I had done this one....

Yes, this sellers packing I have no complaints about. He sells a lot of 78s on ebay and has an excellent feedback rating. He is one of the handfull of sellers that I trust to not only accurately decribe disks condition but also pack extreemely well.JHolmesesq wrote: Rest assured, his packing is second to none. Of the last 2 copies I have seen of this disk on ebay one went for just over £100 and the other £120. It will be interesting to see if the economic situation is really biting serious record buyers. It still has 2 days to go and I predict a bit of a rise before this one runs out. But just how high it goes will be very interesting.

I'm tempted to ask who else is bidding on it, but I think that would ruin the surprise.
This seller annoys me, I ask him where on earth he gets such an amazing stock of records (all virtually unplayed) and I still don't know!

Not me, as I have a copy already, although I would like to get hold of the Whiteman version.JHolmesesq wrote:I'm tempted to ask who else is bidding on it, but I think that would ruin the surprise.

Last time an E/E+ copy of the Whiteman version appeared on eBay it went for well over £100.
