1948 was the change from 102D to 102E. The change was done to standardise production with the Columbia 9000 which was also an EMI portable and shared the same case as 102. I've been always curious about these later models. Are there more comfortable to use? Which could be the reason for this change?

Nevertheless, I've seen older Columbias 109/112/201/202 (.?) which had a flush motorboard too...
