I'm on the hunt for a boring black one but it must be immaculate inside and out.

And what about the later versions of 102 with the flush motorboard and deeper case lid? Mine is the old style (MOS example of 1945). I don't know when these changes in the case were done.
I've been always curious about these later models. Are there more comfortable to use? Which could be the reason for this change?

1948 was the change from 102D to 102E. The change was done to standardise production with the Columbia 9000 which was also an EMI portable and shared the same case as 102. The 9000 was the first to introduce the flush motorboard in 1946.

Ahaaaa, thanks.
Nevertheless, I've seen older Columbias 109/112/201/202 (.?) which had a flush motorboard too...

Not flush. The earlier and proper Columbia machines actually had proud or very slightly raised motorboards. ;)
