... and having a pretty substantial financial means doesn't hurt as well. if every collector was working with massive budgets of disposable income, the number of striking, perfectly restored machines and collections floating around obviously would increase exponentially (basically, I don't think it's any lack of interest in bringing these machines back that poses the problem).

To me, that's one of the biggest attractions to this hobby. High or low budget, big or small living area, disc or cylinder format, accessories, machines, or records-- there's something for all of us and it's fun to share our triumphs (not just Edison) and disappointments in pursuit, acquisition, and restoration of our treasures.

I have been fortunate to make at least some money from the
machines I have sold. I have to be careful what I pay on the
front-end though, its a slim margin and easy to overspend on
parts, etc. I do spend a bit more for machines I intend to
keep however.
