The book is The Compleat Talking Machine written by Eric L Reiss. It was originally published over 35 years ago, and was the first book of its kind that explained how to repair old gramophones and phonographs. It contains quite a few photographs. It also has pictures of a number of phonographs and gramophones from private collections. I found the book useful, especially in the years before the internet and youtube videos. It encouraged me to tackle my own repairs. The book has been republished and updated a few times. It is currently out of print, but available from used book sellers.Sherazhyder wrote: Mon Nov 14, 2022 2:03 pm Well I would love to know more about the book that you have mentioned.

I was thinking this too, and this book also helped me when I needed to make a new non return spring for a Garrard motor. In the spirit of this thread I also recycled some modern spring steel to make itAZ* wrote: Mon Nov 14, 2022 12:30 pm It's interesting that some people have poo-pooed the idea of making your own governor springs. Making governor springs in this manner is actually described in Reiss's Compleat Talking Machine book.

Wonderful!! It’s encouraging to see many of us attempting to repair their machines out of love. Thanks for sharing. Cheersmrrgstuff wrote: Tue Nov 15, 2022 6:39 pm [quote=AZ* post_id=322415 time=1668447053 user_id
