Wow that looks like a very elegant machine for a portable. How does it sound now that the wire mesh is gone. If i get this im going to see how it sounds and maybe Wyatt Markus can check it out and make sure its 100 percent ready to use. Can't wait.

None of the Electrotone No.2 soundboxes I have owned in the past had the wire mesh.
They had a distinctive blue lacquered diaphragm which I assume was a decorative feature.

I wonder what the advantage was of having a “cantilevered stylus balance” over having the stylus directly under the diaphragm, as on an Exhibition, for example.

Maybe mine has the mesh because it is on a portabel? Similar to what victor did with the 2-55? Mine doesn’t have a blue diaphragm.

Curiously the cantilever system is equal to what was used in later Paillard and Thorens soundboxes, the demi-flexible metal plate squeezed between fixtures at the needlebar and at the front ring base. The movement is trusted on the bending of that plate, which also dampens the vibrations somehow. I only know the swiss versions, and by Jove, they sound beautiful and very powerful, with lots of bass.
The soundbox is slightly tuneable, by means of the pressure on the plate screws, which can be somewhat modified.
I don't know the measures, but the end of that tonearm seems equal to the HMV101 and the like.

Thank you everyone. That Edison portal phonograph it the coolest thing have seen. I can only wonder how it looked when it was brand new. So many things to learn from everyone its almost impossible to keep track of everything. I know I can always come to the members here and get my questions answered.
