Excellent.Thanks.

EDIT: and it really works. No more being bumped to the phono ring :) All firefox users should make this simple change to settings.

Apparently for IE, you go to tools- internet options- security (one this page click "custom level- scroll down the list and DISABLE "META REFRESH".

I've just changed my settings, so I'll see how it goes. It's happened at lease 10 times today up til now

I agree with Jim, dump the ring, Regulars know were we are and newbies and find us via Google.
I originally had my Firefox configured to block redirects, but the problem I found is that it also prevents you from being able to complete some processes/actions that DO require a redirect, (e.g., some of my banking activities).

Do you know Brad if there is a way of refining (i.e., including/excluding) redirects? :rose:

Hi Tink,

I am not aware of any customization. When FF blocks, there will be a status bar that appears at the top of the screen. You only need to click "Allow" to allow (clever huh :D ),

I find getting hijacked much more irksome than having to do an extra click, so it is a reasonable compromise for me.

Why do we need signatures when we are on a first avatar basis?

I'm not one that usually complains about much of anything with this board, but I certainly wouldn't mind if the "phonograph webring" went away.

The problem with blocking redirects is that it blocks legitimate redirects as Tink mentioned. This forum has valid redirects that get blocked every time you log in, and also when you do some navigating around in the forum. Not all the redirects are to the web ring. So blocking simply increases the number of mouse clicks. I've not seen the web ring redirects in a few weeks. Besides the blocking notice doesn't tell you what it's blocking, good or bad. Somewhat useless.

BTW, In Firefox there is a way to get to ALL the settings by typing "about:config" in the URL box at the top of the browser. I'm not sure if there is a setting in there to screen out specific redirects.

I think the whole Webring system is outdated. It was useful before really good search engines but who has really used it recently? Any good sites on the ring can just go into the links section.

Is there any way to block redirects in IE? I couldn't find anything.

I commented out WebRing in the forum style, so you won’t need to worry about it any more. Personally, I’ve never cared much for these sorts of things, but John had wanted to include it. *shrugs* Maybe if they get their act together in the future we’ll include it again.
