Portable Victrola 50 Motor Disassembly

Post by Couch Potato »

Can't seem to remove the screw to release the spring barrel. Has been soaked in WD-40 for several days. Anyone else have this issue when trying to repair this particular motor? Is there any chance it does not come un-screwed in the normal counter clockwise direction?

I believe it's left hand thread, as you suspect.

Sure enough turning it clockwise let it be removed. I thought it might be that way as I consider that gear turns counter clockwise and over time would tend to loosen it.

I remember my father telling me some Chrysler cars had lug nuts on the wheels that went one way on the passenger side and the opposite way on the driver side and people would often bust them off trying take them off not realizing.

Thanks
