Did Victor Make Matching Record Cabinets?

Post by MikeB »

I have this VV-VIII with a perfectly matched oak record cabinet. It has a lock which fits a Victor key. I was wondering if Victor may have manufactured it, or if all these matching cabinets for table models were being made by outside companies.

I have a matching cabinet for a VV-XII. I'm away from home at the moment and can't look but I'm quite sure it has a "Victrola" decal on the inside of the door. That would imply that, yes, Victor made some record cabinets. But I'm not so sure. I believe most matching cabinets were made by "The Cabinet That Matches" company. That company must have worked very closely with Victor. If Victor purchased complete but not finished cabinets it would be easy to apply a "Victrola" decal. So my official answer is yes, maybe, and I don't know. :D

I have a table model Victrola XI on a matching Victor base cabinet.
The record cabinet has a decal inside one of the doors that says: Mfg. by the Victor Talking Machine Co.
It also has a lock on the door that can be opened using a standard Victor "V" key.

I believe my cabinet with the "Victrola" decal is identical to Bill's. Mine is home for the first version of the VV-XII. I have a few matching cabinets for Victor horn models but they are unmarked.

Books are our friends! Click twice on the images to enlarge.

From Antique Phonograph Gadgets, Gizmos, and Gimmicks. Note the decal on the drawer.

From Antique Phonograph Accessories & Contraptions. Check out the interesting decal on the door.

Thanks George for your gentle reminder regarding the wonderful books, including the Paul and Fabrizio collaborations, that offer a wealth of information regardilng our hobby. I am about 1400 miles from my library. Do I still have to go to the principal's office? :D

Thanks again,

And of course I own all of your wonderful books, so all I had to do was to go to my bookcase and look....

I will assume that the cabinet for my VV-VIII was made by Victor as it takes a Victrola V key and has Victor knobs.

Thanks,
Mike
