Garrard AC9a induction motor

Post by McTree »

Hello,

Can anyone help me, I need 3 governor springs for a Garrard AC9a gramophone motor. The motor is installed in a HMV495 radiogram. The springs are not standard, they are of the snap on type, one side without screws, the other side with screws. See photo.
Length =54mm, 4.75mm width and0.15mm thick.
Anyone out there with spares or who wants to sell me a replacement motor? I think it may have the same dimensions as the Garrard AC6, 7 and 8.
Springs from a Garrard 20 windup motor have two slots so might fit, so if anyone has those…?
Please help me repairing my HMV495…

Thanks for your help!

An update: zwarteschijf.nl has spare springs for this motor! they are not exactly the same, 2mm shorter. And have 2 slots on each end with a hole in the middle. They require a bit of adjustment of the screw holes, using a small round file that was super easy. The whole assembled unit is now 2mm shorter but seems to have little negative effect. The motor works again. :D

Good job, very glad to read that you solved the issue and the motor is running again! :coffee:

Cheers ;-) I am super happy, for a moment I feared I would never be able to find those replacement springs and the repair of the HMV495 was a failure. But my worries were unfounded. Here a pic with a rotating disc, I find the red glowing radio dial awesome. Later I will ask on the forum for advice on what to do about the cabinet, it is a bit scruffy in its as found condition, but for the time being it will do.

Good to know, as I have several similar Garrard electric motors - many thanks.

And what a beautiful red glow!
