Re: A Tale Of Two Victors
Great story. I found a similar XVI E about 20 years ago with original albums full of patents label Victor red seals. It had been in the same family since new, but sadly had been relegated to the garage. It was one of those bargains you don't often encounter.
I now own an L door VTLA like yours but slightly later ser no. 8878.

Very attractive job with the one in this thread !OrthoSean wrote:Sure will, I'll post what I do in a new thread over the weekend. I'm just in the door from an auction where I just picked up another L-door, believe it or not!!fonograph wrote:Can you share your resto secrets with us ??? That is the most amazing finish I've seen in awhile.

I could go for another L Door like this:

Only problem is its 3000 miles away and a bit out of my budget range.

That machine is only about 15 miles from me, but I would have to go about $9000 out of my way to get thereantique1973 wrote:

Thanks everyone, just for fun, here's a pic of the first three versions of the XVI together (now if I only could rustle up a Pooley flat top!). The dog is Lucy, the voice of all these Victors!

Well, that's one mighty impressive display Sean---congrats on your recent fantastic good fortune! Although I have a dandy L-door Victrola, and enjoy it a lot, I have long admired that next variant of the XVI with the crank in the forward-most position. Thanks so much for your tales of success, and especially your pics of the "as found" and "restored" machines. Does anybody else find it remarkable that---in 2011---not just one but TWO nicer Victrolas would be found in the same house in NYC? All very cool indeed.....

Re: A Tale Of Two Victors
Here's one closer to my neighborhood but a little higher than it oughta be at $4000
So Brad, if the Circassian XVI is only about 15 miles drive, but about $9000 out of your way---How does less than half the price, but 1,700 miles drive work? I'm not so good at math!!
Steve (needs a calculator to count myself out of the running on this one)

Re: A Tale Of Two Victors
So what should a flemmish oak L-Door be worth? I haven't seen the one listed for $4000 until today and am curious of the general value. Any thoughts?
