Great story. I found a similar XVI E about 20 years ago with original albums full of patents label Victor red seals. It had been in the same family since new, but sadly had been relegated to the garage. It was one of those bargains you don't often encounter.

I now own an L door VTLA like yours but slightly later ser no. 8878.

Well, that's one mighty impressive display Sean---congrats on your recent fantastic good fortune! Although I have a dandy L-door Victrola, and enjoy it a lot, I have long admired that next variant of the XVI with the crank in the forward-most position. Thanks so much for your tales of success, and especially your pics of the "as found" and "restored" machines. Does anybody else find it remarkable that---in 2011---not just one but TWO nicer Victrolas would be found in the same house in NYC? All very cool indeed.....

So Brad, if the Circassian XVI is only about 15 miles drive, but about $9000 out of your way---How does less than half the price, but 1,700 miles drive work? I'm not so good at math!!

So what should a flemmish oak L-Door be worth? I haven't seen the one listed for $4000 until today and am curious of the general value. Any thoughts?
