My auntie has decided to ship it anyway. She doesn't want to violate airport rules but said she'll take extra care in packing it. Hopefully, it arrives in one piece.

If it's to be shipped, I'd suggest it should travel in more than one box. The mechanism should be detached from the wooden case and packed separately. The screws holding the bedplate to the case are probably not strong enough to withstand the rigors of shipment, and once the mechanism breaks loose it will demolish the wood.

Also, the motor should be fully run down, with no tension on the spring.

At least, those are cautions I'd observe. Others will doubtless have their own thoughts to contribute.

It's important to ship the mechanism and cabinet separately - that is not assembled together. The weight of the Concert mechanism will easily break the wooden cabinet with only a slight drop. Likewise, the carrier arm of a Concert is prone to breakage. Ideally, that should be removed and perhaps packed into the empty cabinet along with other small parts.

If possible Millie, have her "discharge" (get rid of wound up energy from) the motor before packing.

I was going to comment earlier that if your Auntie was going to hand carry it, she would need to be built like Arnold Schwarzenegger!
