Post by JeffR1 »

How rare is this, I think this is the second one I've only seen in a photo ?
Amusing A.I. description from the seller. (seems like A.I. to me anyway)

"Time-appropriate" records no less!
...the golden age of sound...
The thought-provoking nature of this description causes me to wonder, if a phonograph plays in the woods, and there's nobody to hear it, does it make a sound? (Also, who is winding it? )

the seller "IS" full of $#it?

He has (or maybe NOT) - 3 of these "Edison vic-to-rolas" for $50 / $300 and $120 - ALL are the same pics... a scam???

Who wrote this garbage?

Curt,

It's an AI description. They all read essentially the same way, no matter what is being sold. eBay sellers can opt for an automated AI description when they're too lazy and uninformed to write one themselves.

To answer your actual question, it's not rare at all. Less common than the uprights, but takes up much more floor space.

The A.I description is rather horrific to me. I suppose I’ll have to get used to this unimaginative writing aid for lazy people.

As for being rare, well it’s not. I’ve seen several in my lifetime. They all have had symptoms of VD. Veneer peeling disease. Plus a horribly dark brown gravy finish. Probably to cover up cheap bass wood masquerading as mahogany. The “William & Mary” console looks nicer and probably sold more.

Now if you were decorating in a Gothic “Bride Of Frankenstein” motif it would probably fit in nicely.

As has been stated, console phonographs do take up considerably more floor space.
