VATICAN CHANT cylinder records...any translators out there?

Post by snakeo1 »

Latin? Any translation? Any info? Haven't even picked these up yet. Just found at a 3 generation auction along with a bunch of Edison cylinders. See pics...

Choral music with a connection to the Vatican would almost certainly have been sung in Latin.
Your local Catholic Priest should be able to translate the cylinders, and would probably find them interesting.

I about promise you I have the sheet music for this at home in the 1925 edition of the St Basil's Hymnal. I have a little bit of a background in Gregorian, and have settings for some of this in regular notes as well as an organ in working order.

There's a really good chance I'm holding onto the sheet music. Let me look and I'll get back to you.

Do the cylinders play well?

Will have to get back with you. The auction was out of town....I'll be picking them up in a week.
