Triumph serial numbers

Post by shopdoc »

Dad had 6 Triumphs. In trying to figure out the models, I came up with the following:

Triumph A 30888
Triumph B 51197
Triumph B 60179
Triumph B 67608
Triumph F 84647
Triumph G 86361

My logic went that A was obvious, anything else with an end gate had to be B. F included model on the plate, and the last plate didn't have a spot for the model, so I guessed G. How sound is my logic? Does it make sense that B would span from serial 51197 to 67608?

Model G Triumph would be the one that only has 4 minute speed. The speed change pulley is locked on that model.
The F and G model use the 2 spring Opera style motor.

I think the serial numbers you show are too low for either model, Are you sure the "F" isn't a bad stamped "E"
Most F and G models I've seen have numbers in high 89,000's to low 90,000's

Never say never and never say always with this stuff.

If they are both E, do these undersides make sense?

Yes, they are both Triton motors.

All Triumphs from Model A through Model E and the earlier Spring Motor model used that motor.

Hi All,

I've been jotting down serial numbers for a while and here's a summary of my findings to date:
Model Low SN High SN
Triumph "A" 29,764 45,671
Triumph "A/B" 45,335 50,257
Triumph "B" 47,738 73,586
Triumph "C" 74,127 74,690
Triumph "D" 74,281 82,240
Triumph "D2" 77,738 84,651
Triumph "E" 74,875 89,271
Triumph "F" 88,960 91,380
Triumph "G" 89,233 90,482

I'm sure there are some out of the ranges shown so let me know if you find any.

Thanks,
