This may sound stupid, but would a Victor M motor fit in a Victor D?

I noticed that the Victor M motor has the same speed control arm as the D motor. It has been impossible to find one and I am curious if the M motor would work.

I think the D is a three spring motor and the M is only a 2 spring. Your crank may not be long enough if you use an M motor.

I could easily be wrong, but I believe that the difference is that with the additional spring barrel, the D motor simply has a longer support bracket to accomodate the extra width of springs.
EDIT: As I predicted, I was easily wrong... I looked at some on-line images and it appears that the D & M motors are indeed very different. At least when comparing a "fancy case" M to a later styled Victor D. (Later styled as in resembling a Victor V)
